From the heart: Around Visp the views are glorious: from panoramas taking in Switzerland's highest mountains to dramatic glimpses into deep, unspoilt valleys.
Because the winter sports resorts do not have glamorous names – Bürchen/Törbel, Unterbäch, Eischoll, Visperterminen and Gspon – the atmosphere is agreeably calm, all the way up to 2,540 m. The resorts around Visp may be authentic and traditional, but facilities are modern, and the skiing, boarding, showshoeing and tobogganing a mountain of fun. And the prices – the lowest in Switzerland – couldn't be more family-friendly.
Top tip
Children up to the age of nine ride for free. Sundays in winter are especially good value for families: the one-day "Family" ski pass costs just CHF 99 for both parents plus all their own children, including spaghetti lunch.
