Tip 6: Aletsch glacier (Valais)
Simply awe-inspiring. At 23 km long, the mighty Aletsch glacier is the
longest and most fascinating river of ice in the Alps, and the most
accessible too.
Tip 9: Glacier Express (Graubünden)
Take the Glacier Express from St.Moritz to the world-famous Matterhorn, and travel through the Swiss Alps in 71/2 hours.
Tip 20: Val d'Anniviers (Valais)
Well away from busy roads, the villages of Val d'Anniviers have retained their traditional charm, and the Hotel Bella Tola has done so particularly well.
Tip 21: Allalin (Valais)
From 3,454m to 4,027m in two hours - the ascent of the Allalinhorn is
short and simple with a guide, but still an incredible alpine
experience.
Tip 22: Zermatt (Valais)
No other mountain is quite as photographed as the Matterhorn - the
views from the "five lakes route" are some of the most popular.
Tip 23: Emosson (Valais)
Between Martigny and the Emosson reservoir, travel on no fewer than
four different forms of mountain transport - including the world record
holding funicular from Le Châtelard.
Tip 24: Nendaz (Valais)
Scorched by the sun and often difficult to access, the slopes of the
Valais are irrigated by "Suonen" water channels.
